February 1, 2008 ABOUT THE FESTIVAL Founded in 1999, the Washington, DC Independent Film Festival showcases each year up to 100 features, shorts, animations, and documentaries that represent the best in independent film. These films include ones that have won awards in renown festivals such as Sundance, Toronto, Cannes to World Premieres. DCIFF is unique as there are "Film Sessions" (where several films and Question and Answers with the filmmakers are presented in a 3 hour session). The films compete for awards, including Grand Jury, Cine Latino, Technical, Music to audience awards. A final selection is awarded at the end of the festival the Grand Jury winners to receive financial and promotional supports. The Washington, DC Independent Film Festival also hosts several events with veteran independent filmmakers, seminars and the Capital Day, where filmmakers can come to DC to discuss film related issues on Capitol Hill. The Good Mother of Abangoh will screen on March 15th, 2008 at 2:30pm. |
